How can we help?
Browse the FAQ below, or send us a note — we read everything.
01 — Import & ingest
Getting photos into the app
How do I import via FTP from my camera?
Open Settings → FTP Receive and enable the FTP server. The app shows the IP address and port (default 2121). Configure your camera's FTP settings with that address, your chosen username and password. Files arrive in Documents/FTP_Incoming/ and are imported automatically. Works with any camera that has built-in FTP — Nikon Z-series, Canon R-series, Sony α, Fujifilm X/GFX and others.
Which RAW + image formats are supported?
RAW: Nikon NEF / NRW, Canon CR2 / CR3, Sony ARW / SR2, Fujifilm RAF, Olympus / OM System ORF, Panasonic RW2, Adobe DNG.
Other: JPEG, HEIC / HEIF, Sony HIF.
Can I import directly from an SD / CF card?
Yes — plug a USB-C / Lightning card reader into your iPad or iPhone and use the USB Import action. The app uses iOS's secure file picker so the OS controls which files we read.
What is the watched folder?
A folder you pick once (Files / iCloud Drive / external drive) that the app polls for new images. New files are auto-imported with the same pipeline as USB / FTP — including auto-edit, auto-IPTC and auto-export rules. Cadence is configurable from 1 second (great for tethered shooting where a Mac drops files into iCloud Drive) up to 15 minutes. The poll loop pauses while the app is in the background — iOS would kill a high-cadence timer there anyway.
Why are some files skipped on the watched folder?
Two reasons: (1) the file is less than 2 seconds old — we skip mid-copy files to avoid corrupting RAWs, they'll be picked up on the next scan; (2) the file already exists in Documents/Imported/ — same filename = treated as already imported.
02 — Editing & styles
Adjustments and presets
Are edits non-destructive?
Yes. Adjustments are stored as parameters next to the original file — the file on disk is never touched until you export. Hit Reset in the Adjust panel to return to defaults; double-tap a slider to reset just that parameter.
What does Auto do?
The Auto button runs Apple's on-device scene-aware enhancer (CIPhotoEffect-style auto-enhance) and feeds the result back into your manual sliders as an offset. You can fine-tune from there or hit Reset to remove it. No data leaves the device.
How do styles work?
Styles are saved bundles of edit parameters. Built-in styles ship with the app; you can save your current adjustments as a custom style with the + button. Tapping a style swaps the parameters into the editing session, with a live preview on the canvas. Crop and rotation are preserved when applying.
Can I crop with a fixed aspect ratio?
Yes — open the Crop tab and pick a ratio (16:9, 3:2, 1:1, 4:5, custom). The ratio locks while you drag the handles or pinch the canvas. Auto-crop uses Vision subject detection to suggest a frame in one tap.
04 — Face recognition
On-device matching with iCloud sync
How does face recognition work?
The app runs Apple's Vision framework on each face in a photo to produce a 512-dim feature print. Print is compared via cosine similarity to the embeddings in your reference library. Above a threshold, the chip appears in the IPTC tab — tap to accept and the name is added to persons-shown. Nothing is sent to a third party.
How do I add someone to my library?
Two ways: (1) long-press a photo in the grid and pick "Add face", or (2) accept a match chip and the app auto-strengthens the library by cropping the bounding box from the just-confirmed photo. You can edit prefix / surname / postfix / group later in Settings → Face recognition → Manage face library.
Does my library sync between devices?
Yes — through your own iCloud private database (NSPersistentCloudKitContainer). Train on your iPad, match on your iPhone. Apple is the platform; we don't operate any parallel storage. Sync happens whenever you're online and signed in to iCloud.
What about consent / GDPR?
Face embeddings are special-category biometric data under GDPR Article 9. The feature is opt-in behind a 3-checkbox consent flow (processing / iCloud sync / no under-13). The App Store rating is 17+. You're responsible for having a lawful basis (e.g. a team agreement or individual consent) for the people you add.
How do I export / import a backup?
Settings → Face recognition → Export encrypted backup. Pick a passphrase (≥ 8 chars), the app produces a .tefacelib file you can save anywhere — Files, AirDrop, USB. Crypto: AES-256-GCM with a key derived via PBKDF2-HMAC-SHA256 (600 000 iterations). The passphrase never leaves your device — losing it means the backup is unrecoverable.
How do I withdraw / delete everything?
Settings → Face recognition → Delete all face data. Wipes every reference and embedding both locally and in your iCloud (CloudKit propagation can take ~30 sec across your other devices).
05 — Export
Wire-ready output
Where can I export to?
FTP profiles you configure, AirDrop, the iOS Photos library, Files / iCloud Drive, e-mail. You can save filename patterns and per-destination IPTC settings.
What is Quick Export?
Re-runs the last destination + settings on the current photo with one tap — useful when you're sending many photos to the same FTP server in a row. The button highlights when last-export settings are available.
Can I auto-export on import?
Yes — Settings → Auto Export. Pick destinations + size + IPTC behaviour. Every photo that comes in via FTP, USB or watched folder is auto-exported in the background. Status lives in the Ingest indicator.
How do filename patterns work?
Patterns use variables like {date}, {shutter}, {persons}, {caption[0:40]}. Configure them per FTP profile or for the default export sheet. The Variable Engine reference is in Settings → Code Cheat-Sheet.
06 — Subscription
Pro, free trial, cancellation
What's free vs Pro?
Free includes: photo library, basic edits, IPTC viewer, export to the iOS Photos library. Pro unlocks the full editing pipeline, IPTC editor + templates + OCR + code replacement, FTP receive / send, watched folder, auto-import / auto-export, AirDrop / Files / e-mail export, on-device face recognition + iCloud sync, and encrypted face-library backup.
How do I start the free trial?
Tap any Pro-locked feature or Settings → Get Pro. The paywall offers 7 days free, then your local price per month.
How do I cancel?
In iOS Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions → TheEditor → Cancel. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period; you keep Pro until then. Apple, not the developer, controls subscription cancellations.
What happens to my data when Pro lapses?
Nothing is deleted. Your library, edits, IPTC, face references and watched folder bookmark all stay. Pro features are paused (face matching stops running, FTP / auto-export pause, the editor reverts to view-only sliders). Resubscribing restores everything instantly.
I bought Pro — how do I restore it on a new device?
Open the paywall and tap Restore purchase. As long as you're signed in to the same Apple ID that bought the subscription, it activates immediately.
